The location for the 2008 Cookout and the hotel accomodations are one and the same, just like last year! Better yet, they have four star catering and a shuttle to and from the airport; the location's also right off I-70 for those coming into town via car.

Please note: Interstate 64 will be closed between Ballas Road and Interstate 170 during 2008. Considering how construction congests traffic in St. Louis, it is advised and recommended to avoid driving on interstate 64 entirely. More details on the closure may be found at the official website here.

Hotel rooms are being held under the name "Kolter" for the dates of June 5th - June 8th, 2008. You may option to reserve the room for fewer days than this; some people like to come in early so we held them from Thursday through Sunday just in case. The cost is $75 per night (excluding taxes) for up to quad-occupancy (a discounted rate for a room well worth over $100). But this deal only lasts until May 5th; then it's $89/night for dual-only occupancy. The hotel requires 24 hours before check-in to cancel a reservation.

The amenities include complimentary airport transportation, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness equipment, a complimentary breakfast and wireless internet access.

A brief view of the hotel rooms.

The rooms all have two queen beds, a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee pot, complimentary cable, etcetera. All the furniture, carpetting, bedding, and so on are new. The rooms are really nice as you can see above.

Room sharing / carpooling information may be found on the Guest Arrangements page.

Cookout Rules

There are very few hard and fast rules of the cookout, but here they are:

1) There will be no alcohol at the cookout.
2) There will be no illegal drug use at the cookout.
3) True jackassery will not be tolerated.

The above three rules are the biggest ones. And we are not kidding about them - while alcohol is permitted at the hotel, if you come to the cookout drunk or if if you bring alcohol or drugs to the cookout you, will be immediately escorted out of the cookout and back to your room. This is even if we like you and think of you as our friend. We've never had to do this and would rather never do it. As for "true jackassery", that also hasn't happened, but basically, if you try to ruin the party for people, you'll be asked to leave.

4) No smoking in the cookout conference room.
5) No children under the age of 12 at the cookout please without first talking to the Kolters.

The conference room is labelled a non-smoking room; you may smoke in your hotel room if you reserved a smoking room. We'd rather not have young children at the cookout because of possible swearing, R rated movies, silly anctics and the like. If you are ok with having your child there, just let the Kolters know in advance.

If you're arriving early, then you can either reserve a hotel room for the extra time or speak with the Kolters. Provided we aren't deluged, we'd be ok with having some folks stay with us a day or two. But we will be at the hotel Thursday on, so you will have to be too. The standing rule is, if you come early and stay with the Kolters, we will feed you while you are our guest, but we get to decide what to feed you since we're buying it.

Cookout Events

You are welcome, and encouraged, to suggest events on the forum threads for the cookout, the chat, and in email. The more stuff to do, the better the doing will be!

Food / Catering

Food is being catered again this year, from the best catering company in St. Louis, Russo's!

You are welcome, but not required, to bring any food that does not require refrigeration. This includes soda, chips, and so on, but not, for example, salsa. We are restricted from bringing refrigerator-required food into the conference room (it must be supplied). Again, this is voluntary but cool if you do so. Also, you are welcome to bring food that requires refrigeration if you want to eat it in your own room, or send a note to everyone to share!

Food will be served from 12 PM to 5 PM on Saturday. Grab what you want for later by 5. The exception will be salsa, chips (and the like), soda and whatever else anyone happens to bring. These will be available until they run out.

The following will be available on the yet to be confirmed catered menu:

Quarter pounder hamburgers (at least enough for one each)
Large hot dogs (at least enough for one each)
Boca burgers (vegetarian option)
Coleslaw
Potato salad
Sweet baked beans

Salsa, chips and other dry snacks will also be available. Soda will be provided in both regular and diet - root beer, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Coca-Cola, Pepsi. About 70% of the soda is sugared, 30% non-sugared, and heavily weighted towards Coke and Pepsi.
